Reflection of Japan Study Trip

I appreciate this opportunity to study abroad. Throughout the trip, the mood was very pleasant because the teachers led the group well and the students were very active and cooperative in helping each other. The culture of Japan is very different from ours. Firstly, politeness is something they take very seriously, and secondly, they have preserved their ancient culture very well, which has been passed on to this day. For example, tea ceremony, calligraphy, flower arrangement, Ku Sansui, noh music, kabuki ...... and new cultures such as manga, anime, video games, etc. have been developed from existing cultures. In terms of visual culture, each Japanese culture has its own unique charm and I really like this so I would like to visit Japan to experience their culture.

Sensoji Temple, Asakusa

Figure 1.1 Photo of Sensoji Temple taken by me (11/2/2023)

Sensoji Temple is a very sacred and lively place. My friend, Sylvia who has been to this place before, introduced me to some of the local customs. The smoke from the burning incense is brought to people by hand to keep them safe and healthy; inside the temple, coins are thrown and worshipped for peace; outside there is a pool of water with which people wash their hands, which also keeps them safe and healthy. There are also many famous local snacks, such as dafu, snapper yaki and eel rice balls. Of these three examples, the only one I didn't get to try was the eel rice ball, as there were too many people queuing for it. There is also a famous Ichiran Ramen near Sensoji, and after trying it once, I couldn't get enough of it.

Figure 1.3 Omikuji

The omikuji in the picture above are drawn from Akihabara and the below is from Sensoji Temple. For me, I like the omikuji from Akihabara more because the prophecy is more interesting and closer to daily life.

Akihabara

Video 2 Street View of Akihabara

Akihabara has the most gashapon machines we have seen in Tokyo. We have seen many gashapon machines in Malaysia Comic Fiesta before. However, there is a wider choice of gashapon content in Akihabara and Higashi Ikebukuro than in Malaysia. The gacha in each shop is mostly similar, with only some shops having a specific selection of gacha.

Not only gashapon, it is also a nice place for anime fans. The models are cheaper and sophisticated. Obviously, I must have bought a few models to display at home. The price of the model also need to survey, like research physically. Different store have different prices on the same models.

At the beginning of the entrance is the history of the evolution of the narrator gashapon and also its history. As you enter, you are greeted by a dense collection of Twister machines. Inside, you will definitely want to try your luck. There are many different kinds of gacha content, not only anime, but also cartoon and junk stuff, so there is a lot to see.

Teamlab Planet Tokyo, Odaiba

Figure 4.1 Overview of experience in Teamlab

This was the absolute best itinerary ever, and at first I thought it would be like the Van Gogh exhibition, a visual experience only. No, it wasn't, it was sensory and included his descriptions after each experience so that one could understand what they were experiencing.

It is a long walk from the train station to reach the location. On the way, I noticed that there were always farmed plants and trees outside people's houses and the streets were clean and quiet. Occasionally a bicycle would pass by. Although I was going to collect data, I was in a very relaxed mood, as if we were walking through the neighbourhood. In my previous research, the legend of the senbazuru started with a girl who believed that she could make a wish after folding a thousand senbazuru, but she died before she could do so. I never thought I would stumble upon the small temple that serves her in this street. When we arrived at our destination, we unfortunately missed the opening hours of the omamori. The maneki neko inside is made up of people piling it up, meaning that you yourself can bring a maneki neko, write your name on it and leave it over here. The god statue will bless.

Kura Sushi, a 100 yen sushi store in Asakusa. When we finished our meal, we have to insert the plates into the plate pocket and therefore we get to play a Bikkura Pon for every five plates we ate, we will entered into a little game on the screen at our table and maybe win a gashapon. We were lucky enough to win a gachapon with a spy x family character keychain merchandise after inserting a total of 10 plates.

I have to say the timeline for itinerary is totally good, we have follow up school itinerary and still managed to collect our data. The accommodation also a best choice to pick, private place, separated shower room, warm toilet bowl and so so so on. Finally, I also learn to use Google to go whenever we plan to go by train or by leg. The only downside was that I hadn't budgeted for train tickets and entry fees, which almost didn't leave me with enough money to get home.
