Visual Types
Basic Composition Visual Rules
1. Visual Narrative
The visuals in the scene complements all aspect of the narrative. Complement subject focus on the composition and reflect the narrative.
2. Visual Flow
The path of a viewer's eye through the visual.
3. Visual Balance
It can be symmetry or not and nudge things one way or another.
4. Visual Hierarchy
Arranging elements to show the order of importance.
Types of Shots
1. Establishing
Wide shots were often used to establish not just the setting, but to portray spectacle and give audiences the chance to take in all the splendor and grandeur of a location, while still giving them enough information to process what's going on.

2. Bird's View
Overhead shots, is when the point of view (POV) is placed directly above the subject. It's somewhere around a 90-degree angle above the scene taking place.

3. Frame within a Frame
A well-composed frame within a frame can fracture screen space, add depth, and create visual interest in your cinematic compositions. The technique of cinematic frame within a frame can emphasize and highlight the underlying meanings within your story and break up the information in your frame for maximum impact.

4. Medium Shot
The shot is also called a three-quarters shot which, obviously, frames three-quarters of the character. This is one of the standard camera angles used to frame a character. It’s the shot in between a close-up and a long shot.

5. Close-Up
The close-up is an intimate moment, a look into a character’s mind. It cause us to “catch” emotions, so as the rest of the scene plays out, we’re already invested in the characters’ wellbeing. Therefore, this type of shots the should emphasize emotions and thoughts within a grander context.

6. Worm's Eye view
The shots is below the eye line level, lower on the vertical axis, it may look up at objects or subjects above as if really from their heights. This method is implemented to evoke instead a psychological effect imposing on something, looking powerful and robust.

Fore, Mid and Background
When composing a scene, creating an effective sense of the space is very important. Together with the other theories, illustrating elements of
- foreground (close to the viewer)
- middle ground, and
- background (far away)
within your image will immediately communicate a sense of scale to the viewer.

Task: Digital Triptych (Cultural celebration or Renewal of life)
A triptych is a work of art that is divided into three sections that are hinged together and can be folded shut or displayed open. It is therefore a type of polyptych, the term for all multi-panel works.
For this project, create three illustrations to depict a scenery of a story based on one of the themes (Cultural celebration or Renewal of life) with Adobe Illustrator. Visualize the narrative as a triptych display with an intriguing story that can be visualized in a series of three, like for example the depictions of Past, Present and Future. Designs should have capture the unique, fleeting, and meaningful moment in the narrative. Create sophisticated scenes to the subjects that interact both visually and psychologically with meaningful figures and ground relationships.
Week 4
I decided to develop the subject of Renewal of Life. At first, the idea was a small story for a growing seed to a big tree. How ever, I feel that the storyline does not fit the theme much, so I change the storyline to a mother who brings a boy to adult by her own.

Week 5
The Storyline
The image depicts a single mother raising her son at a different New Year's between 19th
and 20th century.
Although the child is playful, he studies hard to get into college and wants to relieve his
mother's burden so that she can lead a good life in the future. Finally, as expected, he goes to
college, marries, and gives birth to a child and gives his mother a lively and well-behaved
granddaughter. When granddaughter grows up, she will marry someone she loves, and give
birth, cycles go on. This is the Life Extension, the renewal of life. The background's altered
colour also alludes to how their family's circumstances have changed., which they worked
together to change. It is also a tribute to all the great mothers in the world, especially single-
parent families, who have to play the role of both father and mother.
